A New Opportunity

How many times have you heard someone say, “They had it easy, they started at the beginning?”  While nothing is easy, it certainly does make it more likely you’ll be the first to introduce someone to a company if you are one of the first representatives. Just take a look at these numbers!

Origami Owl is introducing a skincare company to it’s family of brands. They purchased a small skincare company called Willa, run by another mother/daughter team and have created Willing Beauty. This new company will have something to help young people with their skin and something for more mature skin as well.  I have already started using some of the Willa products and have already received compliments on my skin.

What makes this company so great? It’s their commitment to using better-for-you ingredients. They are also cruelty free and made in the USA! How awesome is that!

What’s Old is New Again

I took a trip to Forever 21 the other day because a friend recommended their plus size department. I’ve been plus size even before I was 21, haha. As I’m browsing the racks looking for the tell-tale “Plus Size” here sign I notice a lot of plaid shirts. I figure it’s just a trend for the fall/winter selling season. Then I’m looking around and I see cropped shirts, short skirts, flowing floral shirts and it hit me! 90’s Fashions are back in style!

We all know fashion trends tend to recycle through the decades. I really should just save everything because it will be in style again someday. I remember reading somewhere that chokers were back in style too so that just confirms the 90’s fashion trends are back. I thought I would do my own version of a choker using our Origami Owl wrap brackets. I had a little fun once the kids went to bed.

I was surprised how comfortable it was to wear! Now as you can see I’m not a petite person and the wraps worked great. We have two different size wraps and I do need the larger one to wear this as a choker comfortably, but someone with a smaller neck could definitely use our smaller wraps. The top 2 photos are the wrap bracelets with a Living Locket attached. Our Living Lockets hold different charms to represent your  story. We have a wide variety to choose from: sentimental or just for fun. For the bottom left photo I used one of our expression frames. Mine says “Let it Go.” You can view our full collection of wraps here on my website.

If you would like help building your own Living Locket necklace or bracelet feel free to contact me via email.

If you love jewelry and being the first to see what’s new, drop on by my VIP community, The Twilight Lounge.

Now excuse me while I go listen to some Nirvana…

Never Before seen offer from Origami Owl!

Join Origami Owl for ONLY $2!

fb-joino2for2_1-300x300

For the first time ever Origami Owl is dropping the kit requirement and allowing people to join for only $2. Imagine what that could do for you and your family this holiday! Whether you choose to sell to make a few extra dollars or you use the discount to save money while doing your holiday shopping, it’s a win-win.

This offer is only available from Thursday, October 13th through Tuesday, October 18th so don’t delay.

But Katie, I know nothing about sales!

That’s okay! I will be your first step in helping you get started with your business. There is also support from our corporate office (The Nest) and support and training from my mentors. You’re never alone.

I just don’t know if I have the time.

That’s the beauty of direct sales. It is flexible. You decide what time you have to devote and then we make a plan to fit your schedule. I will help you build some systems to make sure you use your time efficiently. I’ve also picked up a few time saving tips along the way.

I just don’t know if it’s for me.

I understand it can be a big decision. It took me 9 months before I decided to start my first business. My main concern was the cost of the kit, but Origami Owl has eliminated that obstacle. If you are interested, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

Maybe it’s not for you and that’s okay. If you can think of someone who could benefit from this offer please pass this along.

If you would like to take advantage of this offer please visit my website and scroll to the bottom of the page to view sign on options.

Stay Happy!

Finding My Place

In a sea of direct sales representatives it’s hard to stand out from the crowd. When I joined Origami Owl it was relatively new and unheard of, heck many people still haven’t heard of it. Now we’ve hit a lot of growth. I’m still holding my own and even built a small team, but of course I would love to do better and reach more people. I love the idea of attraction marketing. I think too many people think if they just keep shoving their information at people they will succeed. I’m definitely not a pushy person so that method will not work for me.

I just had a great training call with a fabulous woman named Brenda Ster (Sassy Suite). I finally know who “my people” are and how I would like to help them.  I chose the name TinkeringKate because (1) it’s actually my name and (2) I found a definition for tinker: somebody able to do many different kinds of work successfully. As a busy mom that definition spoke to me. I’m Irish too so that helps.

So here I am, making strides to help busy moms (and non-mons) with life in general or their business. I know that once I get a few basic time management issues down (we’re all a work in progress) I’ll be a rock star!

Stay tuned for more adventures in direct sales!

Catch me most night at 9PM (EST) on Periscope for “Pillow Talk” where I recap my day and how it went.

Facebook is my main focus so you can find me there or on Instagram. If you’d like more information please fill out the information below:

The Top 5 People Who Join Direct Sales

I’m here to break the stereotypes of direct sales. I think that the most perpetuated stereotype is that those who join direct sales are mostly stay-at-home-moms. This is definitely not true. I’ve come up with the 5 groups of people who join the direct sales industry. Of course, everyone comes from all walks of life and does things for different reasons.

So here we go…

  1. Stay at Home Mom: Let’s face it, daycare is expensive. A lot of the time, it just makes more financial sense for mom (or dad) to stay home. If we have one more child, it would be cheaper for me to stay home too. They may still want to contribute to the family budget or have some extra spending money.
  2. Working Mom: Again, daycare is expensive and eats up a lot of your paycheck (I should know). So maybe you need just a little extra to help cushion your wallet. Maybe your kids are older and participate in activities. Those activity fees and equipment needs can really add up.
  3. College age individuals: College is expensive, too. I remember some textbooks cost about $100 a piece! Let’s face it, unless you’re independently wealthy, you could use some extra money just about anytime. **With Origami Owl, kids as young as 12 can join under adult supervision as an Owlette. How awesome it that?
  4. Retirees: Maybe you’re reaching the end of your career path. You might want something to just keep you busy or maybe you do need a little extra money to help you live comfortably in retirement. My director was able to retire her husband. Now that is love!
  5. Just because: Now this category has nothing to do with money. Remember I said people have all different reasons and some may fall into this category. There are those who love the product and want to get it at a discount. There are those who just want something for themselves. Something that takes them out of the role of wife, mom or employee. Maybe you just want to get out and make some friends. I get paid to party, literally! 🙂

Okay, I thought of an additional one.

BONUS: Seasonal workers: It’s mid May and school will be letting out soon. Teachers are often unemployed for several months. Many do their best to prepare, but sometimes things happen that can’t be anticipated. *If you fall into this category, be sure to check your company’s requirements regarding sales quotas and activity requirements.

I hope you continue to join me on my journey. You can follow me on other platforms too!

First Step to Success – Get Organized

If you’ve read any of my other blog posts, you know I work full time while trying to take care of 2 little ones. I also have a home based business called Origami Owl. So yeah, I’m a little busy. ☺

Whenever I go to meetings or conferences I see people who are so successful and sometimes it gets me down because I’m not as successful as them. I know they say, “Don’t compare yourself to another person’s success.” You can only expect back what you put into it. So yeah, there are others out there who have more time to run their business. The problem is I WANT to be successful like them.

So how do I do that when I have so little time to work my business?  My uplines are awesome and always willing to offer advice or suggestions to help. I feel like part of my problem is I have so many ideas in my head, but not enough time to implement them.

The first thing I need to do is GET ORGANIZED!  There is no room for a real office space in our house so that’s problem number one,  but there’s nothing I can do about that until we move.

image

Here’s what I’m working with. When my daughter came along we had to sacrifice office space for her huge crib. I do most work when they are asleep so that doesn’t work. I put a cabinet in the living room to house some stuff too.

When I started I didn’t have systems in place to stay organized. (I’ll post more about that later) The paperwork piled up and it took me forever to find stuff. I’m still working on finalizing my tax info from last year (yes I know it’s May!).

image

This is my newest planner. I’ve gone through several trying to find the right fit. This is a Happy Planner and so far I like it. It’s not huge, but gives me plenty of room to write. Those stickers are to help me stay consistent on social media.

This is the first step to getting everything together. I know a lot of people like digital apps or websites, but I still like having something physical to write stuff down. I do use some apps so I have everything on the go too. This is more so when I’m planning things out.

Be sure to follow me to see how I do. I’ll be posting an update in a few weeks and YES it’s on my calendar!

Let’s stay in touch!

Pinterest, how do I love thee…

Being a mom is hard these days. Being a mom who works outside the home while trying to build a home based business is even harder. Then you actually need to FEED your children too. Geez the work never ends! When you have to deal with food allergies and sensitivities it gets even harder. I’m used to gluten-free cooking. My husband has a sensitivity to gluten so we’ve avoided it for years.  However, we now have to avoid: soy, potato, corn, cauliflower and dairy. Just about everything found in gluten-free conveniences. So now pretty much everything needs to be made from scratch which is a blessing in disguise because now we can avoid hidden food additives too.

Enter Pinterest….

This has been such a lifesaver!! I can’t imagine what my life would be like without Pinterest.

Some of my favorite recipes are:

  • 100 Calorie (score!) Strawberry Oatmeal Bars
  • Banana Oatmeal Pancakes
  • Broccoli Quinoa Mac & Cheese
  • Slow Cooker Taco Filling
  • Quinoa and Brown Rice Tortillas

I was able to use it to help build my business as well.

I never attended an in-home jewelry bar before I joined Origami Owl. Search “jewelry bar display” and voila! I have a bunch of ideas.

And here’s what I came up with when I first started…

jewelry bar display

It’s so much bigger now that I’ve built up my stock. 🙂

I don’t like people feeling like they are being invited to just come buy some jewelry. Now we need “party themes” so people can actually feel like they are coming together to have fun with their friends. I have found ideas for Halloween themed parties, hot cocoa bar theme and many others.

You can find information for just about any aspect of your business: branding, blogging, how to increase presence and so on. Give it a try and let me know what interesting stuff you find.
